Responsibilities
As a Mechanical Design Specialist, you will develop and evaluate plans and criteria for a variety of projects and activities to be carried out by others
You will assess the feasibility and soundness of proposed engineering evaluation tests, products, or equipment—especially in cases where necessary data are insufficient or confirmation by testing is advisable
You will typically serve as a staff advisor and consultant in your area of technical specialty, whether related to a specific type of facility, equipment, or program function
The role requires the application of intensive and diversified knowledge of mechanical engineering principles and practices across broad areas of assignment and related fields
You will be expected to make decisions independently on engineering problems and methods and represent the organization in conferences to address important technical questions, plan, and coordinate work
This position requires the use of advanced techniques and the modification or extension of theories, precepts, and practices in the field of mechanical engineering as well as related sciences and disciplines
The knowledge and expertise required for this level of work typically result from progressive experience in the field
May supervise, coordinate, and review the work of multidisciplinary engineers, technicians, or staff specialists
May be assisted on projects by other engineers or technicians
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline from an accredited program
Appropriate continuing education is expected
Must be able to obtain and maintain unescorted nuclear plant access and meet S-3 and S-4 medical qualifications, when applicable
Preferred
Licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) is desirable
Membership in professional and technical societies is desirable
