STREET LIGHTING INSPECTOR I
The City and County of Honolulu is seeking a skilled Street Lighting Inspector I to inspect and test the City's street lighting systems and related electrical equipment. This role involves ensuring systems are safe, code-compliant, and reliable, while coordinating with utilities and contractors to maintain safety in public spaces.

Responsibilities
Inspect street lighting construction from start to finish, including wiring, footings, sidewalks, roads, handholes, conduits, poles, and paving
Verify materials quality, workmanship, and that contractor work meets plans, codes, contracts, and ordinances
Perform electrical testing with standard testing instruments
Review and Interpret plans and specifications to verify proper electrical installation
Ensure contractor work complies with the National Electrical Code, City standards, and applicable environmental regulations
Inspect existing street lighting systems and equipment and recommend corrective action when needed
Coordinate electrical service connections with local utility companies
Assist higher-level inspectors with other electrical systems, such as power, communications, security lighting, irrigation controllers, and park facilities
Qualification
Required
Four years of journey-level lineman experience
Citizen, national, or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment
Equivalent to graduation from high school
Four years of journey level line electrician or related experience involving the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical power lines and equipment
Knowledge of street lighting equipment, materials and fixtures
Knowledge of power line construction methods and practices, including the erection of utility poles and installation of transformers, regulators, switchboards, etc
Knowledge of pertinent street lighting and electrical codes, ordinances and regulations
Knowledge of safety practices and procedures of the trade
Ability to read and interpret plans and specifications for the construction and installation of power lines and street lighting systems
Ability to observe construction methods and detect improper methods and practices
Ability to estimate costs of equipment and materials
Ability to prepare accurate and concise reports
Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with contractors and the general public
Possession of a valid appropriate driver's license (automobile/Type 3), prior to appointment
