Laboratory Analyst I/II

The City of Turlock is seeking applicants for the Laboratory Analyst I/II position. This role performs chemical, biological and bacteriological analysis of water and wastewater to support the efficient operation of treatment operations.

Government Administration

Responsibilities

Learn to performs a variety of basic and advanced chemical, biological, and bacteriological tests of water, wastewater, and solids necessary to ensure that plant processes meet wastewater treatment and NPDES discharge permit standards and that drinking water meets State and Federal regulations
Learn to collect samples for analysis, prepare glassware and equipment for lab use and perform lab housekeeping duties as necessary
Learn to perform mathematical calculations and statistical analysis for test results
Learn to maintain and perform minor repairs on laboratory and field equipment
Learn to coordinate sample collection and provide input for process evaluation
Participate in special projects or studies as assigned
Observe and enforce safety rules
Assist with the preparation of technical and administrative reports, and other written documents, including the submittal of all regulatory required reports
Build and maintain positive relationships with staff through clear and concise communication
Subject to rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays
Perform related duties as assigned

Required

Equivalent to a high school diploma or GED certification
Possession of an appropriate, valid Class C California Driver's License at the time of appointment, to be maintained as a condition of continued employment
Possession of a valid Grade I Laboratory Analyst Certification from the California Water Environment Association or a Grade I Water Quality Laboratory Analyst Certification from the CA-NV Section of the American Water Works Association within 24 months of appointment to the position
Two years of increasingly responsible experience in a water and wastewater laboratory analysis similar or greater in size and complexity to the City of Turlock
Experience in a Laboratory is desirable but not required

Preferred

California Water Environment Association Environmental Compliance Inspector, Water Distribution and Water Treatment Certification is desired
Obtain a Grade II Laboratory Analyst Certification from the California Water Environment Association or a Grade II Water Quality Laboratory Analyst Certification from the CA-NV Section of the American Water Works Association within 24 months of appointment to the position

Sick Leave: Accrual of one day (eight (8) hours) for each month worked.
Retirement: Qualified candidates who are currently a CalPERS member or have been a CalPERS member within the last six (6) months or are subject to reciprocity with another eligible retirement plan, may be a "classic member" and may be enrolled in the City's 2.7% @ 55 plan. Employee pays employee contribution rate of 9% on a pre-tax basis. CalPERS "final compensation" may be based on the highest twelve (12) continuous months of qualifying employment. Non-classic or "new members" will be enrolled in the 2% @ 62 plan and CalPERS "final compensation" will be based on the highest thirty-six (36) continuous months of qualifying employment.
Deferred Compensation: The City will match employee's contribution up to one half of one percent (0.5%) of the employee's base salary for each pay period in which employee contributes to the program.
Retiree Health Savings (RHS) Vantage Care: Two (2) percent of the employee's base payroll will be deposited in each individual's RHS Vantage Care account.
Health: The City offers a generous health, prescription, vision, and dental insurance plans for employees and dependents.
Continuous Service Pay: Beginning with the tenth (10th) year and every year thereafter, 1.5% of base salary. Beginning with the fifteenth (15th) year and every year thereafter, 1.5% of base salary. Beginning with the twentieth (20th) year and every year thereafter, 1.5% of base salary.
