The Town of Cary is seeking a Summer Tennis Intern to join their team at Cary Tennis Park, where the mission is to provide high-quality tennis programs and services. This role will involve assisting with tennis instruction, event management, and general support, offering a unique opportunity to work on the Cary Tennis Classic and run a Junior Circuit event.

Responsibilities

Assists with camp and clinic tennis instruction

Assists with program evaluations and processing participant feedback

Provides support for tournaments and special events, including running at least one event from creation to completion

Assists tennis professionals and full-time tennis staff as required

Performs light maintenance and light janitorial duties

Strings tennis racquets according to consumer demand

Educates patrons about the benefits/differences in the different types of string and grips

Performs other job-related tasks as required

Required

Enrollment in a 2-year or 4-year program with major coursework in Professional Tennis Management, Sport Management, Coaching, or a related field

Tennis playing experience at a minimum of the high school varsity level

Advanced knowledge of tennis skills, rules, and strategies

Strong interpersonal communication skills

Ability to acquire knowledge of Cary policies, procedures, and services of the department

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public and with other staff

Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions

Ability to work on the tennis courts in extreme weather conditions for extended periods of time

Ability to feed tennis balls for extended periods of time

Successful completion of drug testing and background check (which may include criminal history check, SBI fingerprinting, motor vehicle records check, education verification and credit history review) and satisfactory reference checks prior to employment
