AAG/Assistant Solicitor General
The State of Louisiana's Department of Justice is seeking an experienced AAG/Assistant Solicitor General to represent the state in habeas corpus proceedings. The role requires exceptional litigation skills and involves managing complex cases in both state and federal courts.

Responsibilities
Serve as lead counsel for the State in all assigned state and federal habeas corpus proceedings
Draft and file answers, motions to dismiss, briefs, and other pleadings in state and federal courts
Analyze trial records, appellate decisions, and post-conviction filings to assess claims and develop litigation strategy
Ensure compliance with all procedural requirements
Represent the State in evidentiary hearings, oral arguments, and status conferences in state and federal courts
Coordinate with trial prosecutors, appellate attorneys, law enforcement agencies, and court personnel as needed
Track and manage deadlines and case status for multiple complex matters
Provide legal advice and recommendations to division leadership on habeas-related issues and emerging legal trends
Any additional duties as assigned by supervisors
Qualification
Required
Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school and admission to the Louisiana Bar (or eligibility for admission)
3-5 years of litigation experience
Extensive experience handling state and/or federal habeas corpus proceedings
Exceptional oral advocacy and legal writing skills
Ability to manage complex cases and large volumes of records efficiently
Strong interpersonal skills for working with prosecutors, law enforcement, and court personnel
Preferred
Prior clerkship preferred (state or federal)
