Parks and Recreation Customer Service Representative (30 Hours)

The City of Des Moines is seeking a Parks and Recreation Customer Service Representative to provide clerical and administrative support within the Parks and Recreation Department. The role involves serving as a central communication point for customers and assisting with scheduling and information dissemination.

Government Administration

Responsibilities

Answers department telephone calls, receives and greets visitors to the department and provides information to callers and visitors
Serves as central person for reservations and scheduling of Park and Recreation rental facilities
Ability to create publications and brochures from general information provided by department staff
Responds to citizens’ questions and comments in a courteous and timely manner
Communicates and coordinates regularly with appropriate others to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of interdepartmental operations and activities
Screens visitors, telephone calls, faxes, mail and messages directed to office personnel
Dispatches information to key Park and Recreation personnel as necessary
Answers customer questions requiring detailed programmatic knowledge of Park and Recreation operations
Follows up on complaints from customers involving gathering information from several Departmental and intra-Department sources
Prepares correspondence, lists and other documents on computer
Keeps immediate supervisor and designated others fully and accurately informed concerning work progress, including present and potential work problems and suggestions for new or improved ways of addressing such problems
Gathers, assembles, updates, distributes and/or files a variety of information, forms, records and data as requested
Copies, packages and distributes a variety of written materials as requested by office personnel
Provides needed information and demonstrations concerning how to perform certain work tasks to new employees in the same or similar class of positions
Attends meetings, conferences, workshops and training sessions and reviews publications and audio-visual materials to become and remain current on the principles, practices and new developments in assigned work areas
Performs other directly related duties consistent with the role and function of the classification

Required

Graduation from High School or possession of a GED
At least one year experience working with standard and customized software applications appropriate to assigned tasks
Some experience in general office and customer service operations
Candidates for positions in this class must pass a post-employment offer physical examination and drug screen
Ability to pass a background check
A minimum typing speed of 40 wpm

Preferred

Completion of college coursework or have a degree in office administration, business administration, or related academic field
