Responsibilities

Analyzes, researches and develops structural engineering specifications involving metals or operation of product to include structures, mechanical and fixturing
Analyzes tolerances, durability, design allowables and structural modeling
Provides hands-on waterfront support, manufacturing engineering support and oversight for the construction of Reactor Plant structures
Ensures; information provided within the SOPs are consistent with the applicable technical authority documents and design yard drawings
Reviews engineering change documents for applicability and proper incorporation within local documents
Applies engineering and submarine construction knowledge towards the validation of welds, notes, and dimensions for VCS construction
Provides training to entry level engineers
Participates in development of processes and procedures
Interacts and collaborates with Engineers, Construction Trade Representatives, and Planning Personnel to ensure proper understanding of the work to be performed, by the requirements of the SOP
Regularly participates in collaboration meetings

Required

Bachelor's Degree and 2 years of relevant exempt experience
Master's Degree and 0 year of relevant professional experience
Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program
Effective in written and verbal communication

Technical Writing
Experience with Microsoft Office Programs

Preferred

A general understanding of the reactor plant construction process
Comprehension of structural drawings
Project management experience
Experience with NDT standards as well as welding standards
Experience with various NNS shipbuilding programs (i.e. SAP, i2, CATIA, Enovia etc.) preferred
