Server Engineer - Technology Services - Telecom & Network
Denton County is seeking a Server Engineer to manage and maintain its server and storage infrastructure. The role involves ensuring high availability, performance, and security of county systems while supporting regulatory compliance and disaster recovery efforts.

Responsibilities
Installs, configures, maintains, upgrades, and troubleshoots servers, storage area networks, Active Directory, server operating systems, software applications, monitoring tools, and other related components
Manages server-side email systems and integrations, including configuration, monitoring, and maintenance of mail flow, spam filtering, and security features
Ensures server performance and maintains reliability and high availability of servers and applications
Performs server administration, continuous system health checks, and installs patches and upgrades
Troubleshoots and resolves issues related to physical and virtual servers, system services, and integrated applications
Provides malware protection on all servers and malware/spam protection on email systems
Performs data backup, network security, file system permission management, and data protection duties
Assists in planning and deployment of disaster recovery procedures
Coordinates and works with internal teams and vendors to resolve problems or configure new services
Creates specialized reports as needed; documents all work and maintains related files and records
Follows county policies and best practices related to information security; exercises good judgment to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of Denton County computer systems and electronic records; operates as a Denton County cybersecurity champion and promotes a cybersecurity-minded culture; supports compliance with CJIS, HIPAA, and other information security regulations
Displays and reflects the culture, mission, vision, values, and direction of the department
Regular and punctual attendance is required
Performs other related duties as required
Qualification
Required
High School Diploma or GED and a minimum of four years of experience in server administration, systems support, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and related experience required
Must not have any Class B misdemeanor or higher convictions or deferred adjudications
Possession of a valid driver's license required. Must obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of employment
Preferred
Bachelor's degree in related field preferred
Relevant certifications (e.g., Microsoft, Nutanix, VMware, CompTIA, or equivalent) are a plus
Experience with Windows Server, Active Directory, server virtualization (e.g., VMware or Nutanix AHV), Microsoft 365, enterprise backup solutions, storage systems, and endpoint protection preferred
Familiarity with infrastructure monitoring tools and server hardware platforms such as Cisco UCS is beneficial
