Instructional Development Specialist - Academic Affairs - College of Dentistry
The University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) is a leading urban public research university, and they are seeking an Instructional Development Specialist for the College of Dentistry. This role involves supporting the integration of instructional technology and digital learning, assisting faculty with technology use, managing assessment tools, and overseeing testing center operations.

Responsibilities
Support faculty in-person in integrating instructional technology and digital learning tools which may occur in lecture halls and classrooms
Delivers training, develops instructional resources, ensures accessibility compliance, and manages assessment platforms
Oversees classroom tech, multimedia tools, and testing center operations. Advises on emerging technologies and collaborates across departments to enhance learning environments
Support high stake assessments such as Obstructive Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCEs). Support classroom technology, recording, content creation
Administer educational platforms (e.g., Curriculum mapping software, Epic, assessment platform, ExamSoft, Learning Management System (LMS), Echo360) and ensure integration with university systems
Support cloud-based tools and secure academic data management and ensures Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Acts (FERPA)-compliant storage and adherence to institutional security policies
Develop and deliver training on instructional technologies and best practices. Assist with exam proctoring, ensuring adherence to testing protocols, academic integrity policies, and a secure testing environment. Respond to faculty requests and troubleshoot multimedia and collaboration tools. Ensure all audio-visual (AV) equipment is functioning properly and troubleshoots any problems in lecture halls and classrooms
Collaborate with IT, Curriculum Committee, and facilities to identify AV needs and recommend classroom technology solutions to meet or enhance instructional delivery and curriculum requirements
Develop policies and workflows related to digital learning, data privacy, and AI usage. Research, evaluate, and pilot emerging technologies, including AI tools and data visualization platforms to support academic innovation. Provide recommendations to administration regarding technology procurement and strategic investments
Plan, assign and review work of student employees to ensure that group objectives are met. Hire, train, develop and manage student employees to ensure that a qualified team exists to meet group objectives
Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned
Qualification
Required
Master's degree in education, educational psychology, or the humanities such as history, political science, literature, journalism, communications, or philosophy AND Six (6) months of experience which included any of the following areas professional writing or editing, audiovisual design and/or production, design and/or production of evaluation tools, educational programming, curriculum development, or classroom teaching OR
Baccalaureate degree in education, educational psychology, or the humanities AND Eighteen (18) months of experience which included any of the following areas professional writing or editing, audiovisual design and/or production, design and/or production of evaluation tools, educational programming, curriculum development, or classroom teaching
Preferred
Master's Degree and 3 years of experience in utilizing instructional technology in higher education
Experience coaching faculty in integrating technology into teaching
Proficiency with platforms such as Canvas, Blackboard, or D2L, ExamSoft, Respondus, QuestionMark or similar
Demonstrated experience with any learning management system software
Effective listening and communication skills to work effectively across all levels of the college and UIC
Expert level analytic ability and problem-solving skills
