Responsibilities

Advise undecided students face-to-face (one-on-one and group), phone, email
Advise student with through review and discussion of academic records, portfolios, or CPLE transfer credit
Research, develop, and deliver presentations requested for classes and student organizations covering various career topics
Participate in the Student Success courses, new student orientations and classroom presentations
Obtains educational and occupational information for students to aid their career and educational planning and to develop their understanding of the world of work
Assists in developing and ensuring compliance with policy and procedures manual for career services and assessments
Assist in developing a comprehensive plan to assist students in selecting personally suitable academic programs and experiential opportunities that optimize future educational and employment options
Interpret various career assessments and counsels students to take responsibility for developing career decisions, transfer/professional school plans, employment plans, and job-search competencies
Assist students with finding employment in their field of study by developing job-search skills, effective candidate presentation skills, and the understanding of the fit between their competencies and both occupational and job requirements. Provide encouragement, career mentoring and job counseling
Advise students on opportunities to gain experience through student activities, community service, student employment, research projects, cooperative education, internships, and other opportunities
Provide ongoing Career Advising to students to develop a full range of career and work possibilities that match student's career goals and workplace/transfer fit
Provide career advising and pre-admission advising to students through scheduled appointments and drop-ins with individuals, online/distance resources, group programs, career planning courses, outreach opportunities, special events, information technology, and other available resources in careers and employment
Participates with the Academic and Career Pathways to organizing career fairs, career activities, and career development programming
Maximizes online resources, social media, and other connections for career support to students
Advise students who are changing programs, careers, or how incorporating skills are transferable
Facilitate skills-based workshops and trainings; assist in campus-wide initiatives engaging cross-campus partners
Support job and internship resources including directories, databases and web resources
Provide coverage as needed during drop-in hours
Advertise and assist in the creation and presentation of workshops on aspects of job, internship, work-study, transfer, etc
Contribute to strategic goals of Career and Assessment Center
Performs other related duties as required for the efficient operations of the division

Required

Bachelor's degree in a related field and two (2) years in experience in career counseling
Must be certified in one of the following: Certified as a Career Services Provider (CCSP), Career Development Facilitator (CDF), or Global Career Development Facilitator (GCDF)
For all candidates, a one-time exception will be made to become certified within 12 months of hire
Proven ability to effectively provide coaching on career counseling topics including: career exploration and decision-making; interest, skill, and work values identification/development; internship, job, graduate/professional, post-graduate service search; resume/curriculum vitae, a cover letter, personal statement writing; interviewing; and other career topics
Proven ability to effectively use helping skills in individual career counseling appointments
Ability to interpret the results of Holland based Assessments
Understanding of student development and career development theories
Successful experience coordinating programs and events

Preferred

Master's degree in student affairs, counseling, or related field and (5) or more years of relevant experience
