Responsibilities

Functions as the Education & Training Coordinator: Designs and delivers in-house and statewide training on cancer reporting, abstracting, coding (ICD-O, staging, treatment), and case finding according to national standard setters’ requirements, while providing opportunities for Alaskan ODS to earn NCRA-approved continuing education credits
Serves as the Quality Assurance Coordinator: Ensures statewide accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of cancer data through audits, edit analysis, and compliance monitoring aligned with NAACCR and NPCR standards
Leads the development, implementation, and documentation of the ACR quality assurance program, including updating operation reports, leading re-abstracting audits, providing feedback to reporters, edits, and corrective action for reporting facilities
Serves as a resource to cancer reporters by providing ongoing technical assistance and mentorship to health care facilities, produces a quarterly newsletter, and, when needed, helps cancer registrars resolve data discrepancies with reporting facilities
Participates in ACR operations, such as death clearance, quality control, and call-for-data submission activities. Attends staff meetings and participates in Department-wide meetings and trainings when required

Required

An active Oncology Data Specialist (ODS) certificate is required for this position
A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment
Education & Training: Knowledge of teaching, training, research, making presentations, lecturing, testing, and other instructional methods
Quality Assurance: Knowledge of the principles, methods, and tools of quality assurance and quality control used to ensure a product fulfills functional requirements and standards
Technical Credibility: Understands and appropriately applies principles, procedures, requirements, regulations, and policies related to specialized expertise
Analytical Thinking/Problem Solving: uses a logical, systematic, sequential approach to address problems or opportunities or manage a situation by drawing on one's knowledge and experience base and calling on other references and resources as necessary
Compliance: Knowledge of procedures for assessing, evaluating, and monitoring programs or projects for compliance with Federal laws, regulations, and guidance

Training from an accredited college or university in any field and/or progressively responsible experience assisting with planning, coordinating, and implementing administrative controls, work processes, and/or procedures for a program, project, business, or organization
