The State of Washington's Attorney General’s Office is recruiting for a permanent full-time Paralegal 3 in the Regional Services Division. This role provides expert paralegal support to attorneys handling child welfare cases and includes administrative supervision of other paralegals.

Responsibilities

Providing expert paralegal support to attorneys representing Department of Children, Youth, and Families, handling child welfare cases in Clark, Cowlitz, Skamania, Wahkiakum, and Klickitat counties
Drafting petitions to terminate parental rights
Guardianship petitions
Negotiating settlements
Conducting trial preparation
Administrative supervision of three paralegals in the Vancouver RSD office
Serving as a member of the management team for the office
Training new paralegals in the practice and procedures of juvenile court
Providing feedback and assisting with decision making for new processes/procedures for the office

Required

Combination of six years of experience through: Paralegal certification, Two-year paralegal degree, Paralegal plus (or nine-month paralegal, post BA) certification, and/or Paraprofessional experience in support of an attorney OR Two years' experience as a Paralegal 2 in Washington State Service
You may have gained applicable paraprofessional experience through previous Paralegal or Legal Assistant work
Examples of paraprofessional experience in support of an attorney include: Preparing legal pleadings and legal correspondence, Ensuring and verifying timely and proper service of legal documents, Calculating, verifying, and calendaring critical events and other dates, Managing case documents, files and exhibits, Tracking and organizing discovery documents, Researching legal issues and verifying legal citations and references for accuracy
Knowledge of Court Rules
Supervisory experience
Knowledge of Law Manager and/or FileVine
Knowledge of DCYF and/or termination of parental rights matters and guardianships
