The National Park Service is seeking a Seasonal Ecologist for Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve. The role involves conducting research and monitoring of natural resources, assisting with field data collection, and communicating technical knowledge to various audiences.

Responsibilities
Conducting research and monitoring of park natural resources, effects of park and visitor activities on resources, and evaluating and meeting the park's need for information to make intelligent resource management decisions
Conducting vessel-based field data collection for multiple natural resource programs
Assisting with biological and physical data collection relevant to the terrestrial ecosystems of Southeast Alaska
Taking accurate and thorough field notes about ecological observation, and entering, organizing, and analyzing data with attention to detail
Operating GPS units, data collection phones, and uses Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Program R and ArcGIS
Participating in outreach and technical advisement concerning wildlife and wilderness management to park employees, researchers, visitors and the local tribes and communities
Communicating technical knowledge and results to a variety of audiences, through co-authorship of technical publications, including report and journal articles, presentations to technical or non-technical audiences

You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required
You may be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record
You might be asked to submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you
You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards
A uniform allowance will be provided
You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, or overtime
You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 10 nights per month
You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes
You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority
Applicants must be at least 18 years old
Special knowledge or expertise concerning the park's or preserve's natural and/or cultural resources and the management thereof is required
Local knowledge of the resources and the typical conditions that affect the work to be accomplished will be applied in the performance of duties
Applicant resumes should reflect periods of time having lived or worked in or near the area of consideration
Knowledge of the principles and techniques of wildlife biology to conduct natural resource monitoring, research and management activities
Knowledge of Southeast Alaska ecosystems and their flora and fauna, including terrestrial mammals, marine mammals, seabirds and shoreline communities
Knowledge of contemporary data management methods and procedures; and Geographic Information System (GIS) methods and design, and analysis and presentation of spatial and non-spatial data
Knowledge of backcountry travel and safety and the ability to carry out biological/scientific work safely in difficult weather conditions and logistical circumstances in remote locations
Working knowledge of scientific data acquisition and analysis standards, methods, and recording techniques so that the incumbent can efficiently manage the collection and summation of data and accomplish data analysis in a way that is highly credible and meets scientifically acceptable standards
Ability to effectively communicate with a variety of audiences, both verbally and in writing
Ability to maintain data and databases meticulously and keep research gear well inventoried and organized
Benefits
An additional 3% cost of living allowance (COLA) will be added to the salary above.
Pay is subject to annual review and adjustment.
A uniform allowance will be provided.
