Director of Training & Development

Aspyre Fire & Life Safety is a rapidly growing network focused on creating safer environments through effective fire and life safety solutions. The Head of Training will lead the development and implementation of comprehensive training programs aimed at enhancing the technical competency and professional growth of the field services team.

Responsibilities

Design and implement a complete training curriculum for installation, inspection, repair and maintenance, fire alarm systems, fire sprinkler systems, fire suppression systems, emergency lighting, and related life safety equipment
Develop onboarding programs that accelerate new hire proficiency while maintaining safety and quality standards
Create and support certification pathways and continuing education requirements aligned with industry standards and regulatory requirements
Establish training metrics and key performance indicators to measure program effectiveness
Build partnerships with manufacturers, industry associations, and certification bodies to enhance training offerings
Develop best-in-class classroom-based and field-based training methodologies appropriate to different learning objectives
Conduct classroom training sessions on technical subjects, code requirements, customer service, safety and compliance, company procedures, and the use of Field Management Software platforms such as Service Trade, Build Ops, and Simpro
Lead field-based training through ride-alongs, job site observations, and hands-on troubleshooting exercises
Deliver specialized training on inspection, testing, maintenance, installation, and repair procedures
Train team members on relevant State and National codes such as NFPA 72, ensure knowledge of local jurisdiction requirements, and reporting to Authorities Having Jurisdiction
Develop and deliver safety training programs ensuring OSHA compliance while promoting a strong safety culture aligned with the Aspyre Fire core values
Produce SCORM compliant training materials including manuals, quick reference guides, video tutorials, and assessment tools
Maintain a digital training library accessible to field technicians via mobile devices and Learning Management Systems
Document standard operating procedures and best practices for common service scenarios
Create job aids and troubleshooting tools through the support of the IT team to help field technicians identify defects and repair them efficiently
Keep all training content current with evolving technologies, code changes, and product updates
Identify and develop subject matter experts within the existing team to serve as supplemental trainers in a “train the trainer” model
Establish a mentorship program pairing experienced technicians and/or the service supervisor with newer team members to coach and support while in the field
Evaluate individual training needs and create personalized development plans
Collaborate with operations leadership to address performance gaps through targeted training interventions
Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional development
Develop competency assessments and practical evaluations to verify skill proficiency in accordance with National, State and Local standards
Conduct field observations to assess real-world performance and identify coaching opportunities
Track training completion rates, certification attainment, and correlation with performance metrics
Analyze first-time fix rates, customer satisfaction data, and safety incidents to inform training priorities
Provide regular reporting to executive leadership on training outcomes and ROI

Required

Minimum 7+ years of hands-on field experience in fire protection and life safety systems
Minimum of 2 years in a training, supervisory, or leadership capacity
Demonstrated expertise across multiple fire protection disciplines
NICET Level III or IV in Fire Protection Technology (any specialty), OR CFPS (Certified Fire Protection Specialist), OR Equivalent combination of manufacturer certifications and field experience
OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
Additional NICET specialties, fire alarm manufacturer certifications (Simplex, Notifier, Edwards, Fahrenheit) and suppression certifications (Ansul, Kiddie, Pyrochem, etc.) for kitchen systems, FM-200, CO2, Novec), state and local licenses
Strong working knowledge of NFPA codes (particularly NFPA 72, 25, 13 and 10) and local fire codes
Understanding of inspection, testing, and maintenance requirements for fire protection systems
Able to travel and spend time with field employees – coaching, mentoring, and providing feedback
Comfortable creating training materials and the use of technology in delivering instruction to varied audiences
Knowledge of Learning Management Systems – and building of content into Learning Management Systems and tools

Preferred

Preferred, but not required, a four-year degree Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Business, Education, or other technical studies
A plus, but not required, a Masters Degree in Engineering, Education, Instructional Design, Communications, or other technical studies
