Probation Officer - BFOQ/MALE
NEOGOV is part of Chesterfield County's Community Corrections Services, which provides supervision and case management for individuals under probation supervision. The Probation Officer will be responsible for monitoring compliance with court orders, managing a caseload, and collaborating with various stakeholders to support individuals in meeting their probation requirements.

Responsibilities
Supervise individuals under court ordered probation supervision who may have substance use disorder, mental health diagnoses, etc
Monitor and enforce compliance with court ordered supervision conditions and provide notifications to the court of non-compliance
Create, develop, and maintain partnerships with the Chesterfield Sheriff’s Department, Chesterfield Mental Health Support Services and other stakeholders
Encourage clients to engage with Peer Recovery Specialists
Perform drug and alcohol testing as needed
Provide extensive and accurate written notification to Judges, Commonwealth’s Attorneys and defense attorneys
Testify in court as required
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree required
One year of relevant experience in human services/criminal justice field; or an equivalent combination of training and experience
Knowledge of judicial system and community supervision
Caseload management skills and knowledge of legal and evidence-based practices
Computer competency to include operating a personal computer, work issued cell phone and related software, other standard office equipment
Accurate and timely documentation in multiple databases
Completion of Core Skills through the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services
VCIN certification
Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required
Must be a US citizen or have been a lawful resident of the US for the past ten consecutive years
Current valid driver's license and good driving record required
Based on the Virginia DMV point system, record must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months
Out of state driving records must be obtained by the applicant and presented at time of interview
Records must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview date
Preferred
Degree in Criminal Justice, Psychology or Social Work preferred
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing
Critical thinking skills to include making sound decisions in high stress situations and judgments that may impact a client's freedom and community safety
Ability to accurately apply policies, practices, and the Code of Virginia to probation supervision
Skills to build internal and external relationships
Knowledge of Motivational Interviewing (MI) and Effective Practices in Correctional Settings (EPICS)
Work as a member of the Probation Team and participate in a collaborative work environment
