Responsibilities
Conduct thorough investigations of losses, verify coverage, evaluate liability and damages, and determine compensability independently
Engage in negotiations with other parties and settle claims in accordance with claims handling guidelines
Review and analyze documents and legal pleadings using expertise in the field
Establish and maintain accurate reserves for each claim to reflect financial exposure
Collaborate and communicate effectively with agents, policyholders, and internal stakeholders regarding claims and the book of business
Partner with legal counsel to manage litigated claims
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Minimum of 3 years of experience handling Michigan PIP claims (experience with bodily injury claims preferred but not required)
Ability to obtain appropriate state licensing as required
Proficiency in computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite and Excel
Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships and partnerships within the department, across the organization, and with external customers
Strong strategic thinking and analytical skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interaction with internal and external customers
Proven negotiation skills
Preferred
AIC or SCLA certification is preferred
