Responsibilities
Design, build, and optimize relational and NoSQL databases to support high-throughput, low-latency data processing
Architect and maintain scalable, secure, and reliable data pipelines, including ETL/ELT workflows and data warehousing solutions
Lead and mentor a team of data engineers and BI engineers, providing technical direction, best practices, and career development
Design and optimize cloud-based data platforms, with a strong preference for AWS services
Ensure data quality, consistency, privacy, and regulatory compliance across all data systems
Partner with data analysts, data scientists, product teams, and business stakeholders to define data strategies and deliver insights-driven solutions
Enable and support machine learning and advanced analytics use cases by building ML-ready data architectures and feature pipelines
Collaborate with data science teams to productionize machine learning models, ensuring scalable, reliable, and compliant data flows
Leverage Python and R for data engineering, analytics, feature engineering, and automation
Monitor, troubleshoot, and continuously improve data pipeline performance, identifying bottlenecks and optimizing system efficiency
Ensure high availability and reliability of data systems, meeting defined SLAs and minimizing downtime
Implement and enforce security controls and infrastructure best practices, addressing vulnerabilities and meeting industry and regulatory requirements
Drive automation for data ingestion, transformation, deployment, and operations using DevOps and CI/CD tools
Partner with software engineering teams to design and integrate systems with a focus on reliability, scalability, and performance
Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation for data architecture, infrastructure, deployment pipelines, and operational processes
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
8+ years of experience in data engineering, including at least 2 years in a technical leadership role
Strong hands-on experience with Python and R for data engineering, analytics, and machine learning workflows
Proficiency in SQL, Apache Spark, and Apache Airflow
Experience with Metabase, Logi Composer
Extensive experience with AWS, including: Redshift, S3, Glue, RDS, DynamoDB, ElastiCache, OpenSearch, Kinesis
Proven experience designing and optimizing ETL/ELT pipelines and data warehouses
Experience with real-time and event-driven data processing, including AWS Kinesis
Experience with data visualization and BI tools such as Tableau and Power BI
Familiarity with machine learning and data science libraries (e.g., scikit-learn, pandas, NumPy, Spark ML, tidyverse, ggplot2)
Understanding of ML lifecycle considerations, including feature engineering, model evaluation, data drift, and retraining strategies
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think both creatively and systematically
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with engineers, cross-functional partners, and executive stakeholders
Demonstrated ownership, accountability, and sound judgment in technical and business decisions
Preferred
Experience in the iGaming and/or Sports Betting industry
Background in startup or high-growth environments, with the ability to execute under time pressure
Practical experience applying machine learning or statistical modeling in production environments
Experience supporting ML workloads in regulated or high-availability systems
Experience in fraud detection is a plus
