Senior Azure Database Performance Engineer

Scalence L.L.C. is seeking a skilled professional to join their team as a Database Performance Engineer. The role involves ensuring the availability and optimization of MSSQL databases in both hosted and cloud environments, specifically within Azure.

Responsibilities

Ensure optimal performance of MSSQL 2016, 2017, 2019, and 2022 databases hosted in Azure
Experience with Azure SQL Database and Managed Instance in Azure is required
Experience with Snowflake is a plus
Monitor and enhance database performance and queries through continuous tuning
Collaborate with application teams and stakeholders to identify and resolve MSSQL-related issues
Adhere to technical standards and operational procedures to meet performance, high availability, replication, scalability, and security requirements
Hands-on experience in designing and troubleshooting real-time MSSQL issues is necessary
Develop and enforce standards to ensure application design and code integrity, security, and performance
Perform regular reviews of design and code to ensure adherence to site standards
Provide technical support to application development teams as needed
Assist in resolving priority incidents, participate in root-cause analysis, and support corrective and preventative actions
Work closely with the database manager and collaborate with application support and engineering teams to optimize database performance and reliability
Encouraged and supported to acquire relevant Azure certifications (e.g., DP-300, DP-900, AZ-900 Exam)
Establish, maintain, and adhere to technical standards, policies, and procedures

Required

Preferred

Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related technical field
6-8 years of experience working with large MS SQL Server databases and Snowflake in a 24x7 production environment
Strong performance tuning experience using tools like SolarWinds, Query Store, Extended Events, etc
2 years of hands-on experience operating MS SQL servers and related technologies in Azure
Understanding of database encryption, high-availability, disaster recovery, database replication, and backup/restore
Detail-oriented with excellent written and verbal communication skills
