Responsibilities
Understand business objectives and problems, identify alternative solutions, perform studies and cost/benefit analysis of alternatives
Analyze user requirements, procedures, and problems to automate processing or to improve existing computer system
Confer with personnel of organizational units involved to analyze current operational procedures, identify problems, and learn specific input and output requirements, such as forms of data input, how data is to be summarized, and formats for reports
Write detailed description of user needs, program functions, and steps required to develop or modify computer program
Review computer system capabilities, specifications, and scheduling limitations to determine if requested program or program change is possible within existing system
Lead user research initiatives and journey mapping to gain deep insights into user interactions and identify opportunities for optimization
Proven UX Design Experience: Extensive portfolio demonstrating expertise in user research, information architecture, wireframing, prototyping (low and high-fidelity), and usability testing
Develop wireframes, prototypes, and visual hierarchies in accordance with established accessibility guidelines and branding standards
Collaborate with Code for America and cross-functional teams to apply industry best practices in UI/UX design
Engage in discovery workshops, feedback sessions, and sprint planning to ensure that design decisions are aligned with business objectives
Employ a comprehensive suite of tools—including Figma, Adobe XD, Sketch, and Hotjar—and implement usability testing, responsive design, and SEO optimization strategies
Experience with AI/ML Interfaces: Demonstrated experience designing user interfaces for systems that incorporate Artificial Intelligence or Machine Learning, with a focus on explainable AI (XAI) and human-AI interaction principles
Complex System Design: Ability to understand and design for complex business logic and regulatory requirements, particularly in domains like government services, healthcare, or finance
Data Visualization: Skill in presenting complex data and AI insights in a clear, concise, and understandable visual format
Empathy and User Advocacy: Deep commitment to understanding user needs and advocating for user-centered design principles
Collaboration & Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and present design solutions to stakeholders
Understanding of Accessibility Standards: Knowledge of WCAG and other accessibility guidelines to ensure inclusive design
Bonus: Experience with eligibility determination systems or similar rule-based, data-intensive applications
Qualification
Required
11 years of Hands-on experience designing user interfaces and experiences for enterprise systems, including wireframes, prototypes, and visual hierarchies using tools like Figma, Adobe XD, and Sketch
11 Years of Demonstrated ability to collaborate with technical and non-technical teams, translating business needs into intuitive design solutions that align with accessibility and branding standards
10 Years of Experience applying UX design principles such as hierarchy, contrast, and alignment to create responsive and accessible web and mobile interfaces
10 years of Experience creating wireframes and prototypes that support agile development cycles, including sketch-to-visual fidelity transitions
5 years of Experience designing graphical diagrams and visual narratives to communicate timelines, workflows, and system architecture
3 years of Demonstrated ability to facilitate design workshops and feedback sessions with stakeholders, ensuring alignment with business goals and user needs
3 Years of Bachelor's degree in graphic design, Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, or related field. Equivalent experience may be substituted
3 Years Strong multitasking skills with the ability to manage multiple design streams across concurrent work effort
Preferred
Bonus: Experience with eligibility determination systems or similar rule-based, data-intensive applications
