Responsibilities

Represents the County and County-related agencies in State and federal court litigation, and administrative proceedings, relating to code enforcement, consumer protection, environmental justice and public health, and/or affirmative litigation where the County is the plaintiff
Provides legal advice and representation to the Board of Supervisors, County departments, and County-related agencies concerning code enforcement, consumer protection, environmental and public health issues, and affirmative litigation when the County is the plaintiff
Works closely with other lawyers, County departments, and the Board of Supervisors on code enforcement team to enforce violations of County Code and protect consumers
Coordinates with County officials, other jurisdictions, and State, regional and local agencies on litigation involving consumer protection, code enforcement, affirmative litigation, and/or environmental justice and public health issues

Required

Seven (7) years' experience in civil litigation; five (5) years of which must include experience in the areas of complex litigation, code enforcement, consumer protection, civil rights, or environmental justice/public health matters
Admission to practice law in all courts of California
A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions
Physical Class II - Light: This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort that may include occasional light lifting to a 10-pound limit and some bending, stooping, or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved

Preferred

Experience beyond the requirements in the areas of complex litigation, particularly representing plaintiffs, including litigation of consumer protection, code enforcement, civil rights, environmental justice, or public health matters
Experience representing local, state or federal government entities in litigation as the plaintiff
Experience as a city, county or federal prosecutor
