Sr. Cyber Security Engineer
The Planet Group has partnered with a Washington, DC base company to locate a Senior Cybersecurity Engineer for a full time role. This role operates within a fast-paced healthcare technology environment, supporting complex infrastructure and requires collaboration with various teams and stakeholders.
Responsibilities
Monitor, analyze, and respond to security alerts, incidents, and anomalies across enterprise systems
Conduct vulnerability assessments, penetration testing, and proactive threat-hunting activities
Investigate and document security incidents, perform root cause analysis, and recommend remediation strategies
Leverage SIEM, EDR, and IDS/IPS platforms (e.g., CrowdStrike, Microsoft Sentinel, etc.) to support continuous monitoring and response
Design, implement, and maintain enterprise security controls including firewalls, NAC, DLP, CASB, and endpoint protection
Support secure configuration standards using frameworks such as CIS Benchmarks and STIGs
Implement and manage identity and access management (IAM), multifactor authentication (MFA), and privileged access controls
Integrate security practices into CI/CD pipelines and DevOps workflows (DevSecOps)
Support the adoption of Zero Trust principles across hybrid and cloud environments
Ensure alignment with cybersecurity frameworks and regulatory requirements such as HIPAA, NIST 800-53, ISO/IEC 27001, PCI DSS, and GDPR
Contribute to the development and maintenance of security policies, procedures, and documentation
Support internal and external audits, risk assessments, and compliance reviews
Participate in disaster recovery and business continuity planning
Partner with IT, compliance, and operational teams to embed security throughout the organization
Provide mentorship and technical guidance to cybersecurity and IT staff
Develop and deliver security awareness training, including phishing prevention and data protection best practices
Translate complex technical concepts into clear, actionable guidance for diverse audiences
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field (required)
7–10 years of progressive experience in information security, with at least 5 years in a security engineering role
Hands-on experience securing hybrid environments (on-premises and cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or GCP)
Proven experience with enterprise security tools (e.g., Microsoft Defender suite, Cisco ISE, CrowdStrike, Microsoft Sentinel)
Proficiency with scripting or automation tools (PowerShell, Python, etc.)
Strong background in encryption, PKI, IAM, SSO, VPNs, and secure system design
Experience implementing Zero Trust and DevSecOps practices
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-impact environment
High degree of integrity and commitment to protecting sensitive data and enterprise assets
Preferred
Master's degree in Cybersecurity, Business, or a related discipline (preferred)
CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional)
CISM (Certified Information Security Manager)
CCSP (Certified Cloud Security Professional)
AWS Certified Security – Specialty
Microsoft Certified: Azure Security Engineer Associate
SABSA or TOGAF
