Supervisory Legal Assistant

The U.S. Attorney's Office (USAO) for the District of Maryland serves as the chief federal law enforcement office in Maryland and is charged with pursuing justice and ensuring public safety on behalf of the United States. We are seeking a Supervisory Legal Assistant to assist/support Criminal Assistant United States Attorneys in efforts to discharge our mission. Vacancy is located in the USAO's Greenbelt office.

Responsibilities

Instructing and training support personnel assigned to the Maryland Criminal Division to ensure maximum production will be realized under normal supervision
Distributing work assignments in the unit with complete authority and directing employees on various work assignment changes due to vacancies, absences, or workload increases
Advising employees of the performance requirements of their positions, completing mid-year progress review reports, and preparing the annual performance appraisal for each employee
Serving as the focal point in providing expert advice on legal support work
Providing information and assistance concerning assigned cases to include status and to resolve procedural problems

Required

You must be a U.S. Citizen or National
Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation
You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable
If selected, you may be required to complete a one year probationary period
If selected, you will be subject to the satisfactory completion of a one year supervisory or managerial probationary period unless this requirement has been met previously
Time-in-Grade: Federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement
You must meet all qualification and eligibility requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement and before placement in the position
To be qualified at the GS-9 grade level, you must have at least one full year of specialized experience at the GS-8 grade level in federal service
Education may not be substituted for specialized experience at this series/grade level
