Director for Employer Engagement and Student Readiness (Grant Funded)
Texas Wesleyan University is seeking a Director for Employer Engagement and Student Readiness to advise and manage students on experiential learning opportunities. The role focuses on helping students acquire internships, managing employer-recruiting activities, and enhancing career services to support student success post-graduation.
Responsibilities
Advises and manages students on available experiential learning opportunities
Helps students acquire internships appropriate to their career goals through untapped community networks (FW Chamber of Commerce, FW Black Chamber of Commerce, FW Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Arlington Chamber of Commerce, FW East Business Association, etc.)
Network and recruit meaningful opportunities for student engagement in corporate and educational settings, serves as a career coach, and engages in appropriate community organizations to further the opportunities for post-graduation success of our students
Assists the department in managing general operations, program assessments, maintaining and developing employment recruiting events, and development of college and career programs
Helps manage and staff the Employer Advisory Board
Manages and implements employer-recruiting activities for entry-level employment and internships/job shadowing, including information sessions, interviews, career fairs, and other marketing strategies directed to students
Assists with program evaluation/assessment by surveying employers on quality of recruiting services provided in order to improve recruiting program
Publicizes programs including web pages; updates career service entries in campus publications; publicizes events on campus-wide web calendar; and keeps students (and staff) current via electronic bulletins
Keeps faculty, students, and staff informed about new internship opportunities
Develop workshop and career related presentations to assist students in readiness for internships
Represents college in various professional organizations
Serves on Divisional Committees
Establishes and maintains effective and cooperative working relationships with students, alumni, faculty, employers, and the general public. Initiates contact with employers
Design and develop employer marketing material, compose content, and coordinate timing of communications to employers
Proactively develop and implement strategies designed to increase internship opportunities for university students
Represent Career Services on-campus and in the community as needed
Helps manage and staff the Employer Advisory Board
Proactively develop and implement strategies designed to increase employment opportunities for university students and alumni
Implements surveys to identify students hired by recruiters, quality of services provided, employment offers, and class-wide career interests surveys and compiles and analyzes data for consultation and/or event design
Assists with new student orientations and other academic student support programs as assigned
Answers questions and helps students find resource materials
Proactively seeks out opportunities for outreach and collaboration with academic/administrative departments and student organizations
Counsel students regarding career/major planning and development and employment issues on an individual and group basis, through vocational instruments, workshops and career/undecided major-related programs
Qualification
Required
Master's degree
Professional experience in student development, career counseling, basic counseling/coaching skills, corporate relations, internships, and working with career development/student development theory
Supervisory, management, and relationship-building skills
Strong organizational skills and knowledge of standard filing procedures
Ability to plan, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines
Ability to adhere to University & departmental policies and procedures
Ability to maintain a professional office atmosphere
Proficiency with an integrated administrative system and current computer software programs
Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community
Outstanding interpersonal and community relations skills
Flexibility to work independently and as a member of a team
Ability to investigate, analyze data, draw conclusions and make decisions to solve problems
Knowledge of rules, standards, regulations, and laws regarding student records
Ability to use discretion in handling confidential matters, while complying with FERPA regulations
Even tempered and ability to maintain positive approach under pressure
Preferred
Master's degree in Student Services, Student Affairs, Counseling, Education, or related field
Two to four (2-4) years of professional experience in career development, student development, or employment counseling, or the equivalent
Knowledge of higher education academic environments, principles of student development theory, and academic advising
Corporate relations experience
