As a Backend Engineer, you will design, build, and scale core systems for an AI-powered research platform, taking ownership of system reliability and observability while working on backend services and AI infrastructure.

Responsibilities

Build and ship production features at high velocity
Design and scale backend services that handle high-volume LLM traffic, vector search, and multi-agent workflows
Integrate and coordinate AI infrastructure spanning model providers, databases, and internal services
Take ownership of system reliability and observability, including evolution of our Postgres / ClickHouse data layer and background job orchestration
Rapidly prototype backend components such as retrieval pipelines, caching strategies, async workers, and task queues to accelerate product development
Help define engineering standards, practices, and culture as the team grows

Required

Is based in NYC and excited to work in person five days per week
Enjoys working at the intersection of systems design and AI infrastructure
Has driven complex projects from concept through production

Is comfortable working across our stack, including Next.js, TypeScript, and PostgreSQL
Has a strong bias toward speed, iteration, and shipping

Preferred

Retrieval systems, embeddings, or prompt orchestration workflows
Building internal tooling or infrastructure at early-stage startups
