Technician II, Const Civil Engineering - (26-PO-804003-005)

The Technician II, Construction Civil Engineering is responsible for monitoring and inspecting field construction projects related to water mains, sewer lines, and other infrastructures, ensuring compliance with approved plans and specifications.

Responsibilities
Inspects water and wastewater treatment facilities, water distribution, sewer collection, storm drainage, structural and paving construction; monitors construction for compliance with approved plans and specifications; checks materials used; determines alignment, grade and compaction of fill; orders standard field and laboratory tests; performs simple field measurements; prepares and maintains related records and reports
Prepares and maintains various drawings and charts; quantities and cost estimates; calculates cut and fill for excavation
Assists in gathering data on the specific area of assignment; performs minor field survey work; provides assistance in the analysis and interpretation of data; assist in preparing verbal and written reports based on analysis and findings
Monitors on-going phases of projects to determine status and completion date
Provide technical assistance to less experienced technicians
Performs other related duties and projects as assigned at the discretion of the immediate supervisor
Qualification
Required
Three (3) years of progressive experience associated with field construction and/or maintenance of water and sewer systems
High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate
Knowledge of the elementary principles and practices of civil engineering
Skill in performing technical computations, assist in analyzing complex data, and reports based on findings
Skill in preparing technical civil engineering drawings for reports and as-builts
Basic knowledge in the use of civil engineering instruments and equipment
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
Skill in the use of a personal computer and related software for report preparation
Motor Vehicle Operating License
Subject to indoor and/or outdoor environmental conditions that include exposure to extreme cold and/or hot temperatures
Subject to working on construction sites, underground sewers and pumping stations
Subject to noise and to hazards from a variety of physical conditions
Performs fieldwork requiring walking, bending and long periods of standing
Subject to atmospheric conditions that affect the respiratory system or skin such as fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases or poor ventilation
