Program Director, Occupational Therapy Assistant

Responsibilities
Keeps up with developments in the field of study
Demonstrates high standards—academic and professional
Evaluates student work constructively and provides timely feedback
Teaches at times and locations that meet student needs
Provides access to students through posted conference hours, electronic communications, and other appropriate methods and responds to inquiries in a timely manner
Reviews, evaluates, and recommends student learning materials
Develops and uses a syllabus and course information materials for each course, laboratory, or clinical setting within state, college, and departmental guideline
Maintain current knowledge of the standards of ACOTE in order to generate reports and adapt the program as needed
Maintains high standards of competence in the discipline(s) and teaching methodologies through professional development activities
Plans, develops, and uses effective teaching methods and materials which assist students in meeting course objectives, are appropriate for students with varied educational and experiential backgrounds and learning styles, and engage the students in learning
Reviews, evaluates, reflects, and revises program curricula and teaching methods through a self-evaluation process of self-reflection
Meets or exceeds professional standards, state-mandated guidelines, requirements of business/industry, and higher education, as appropriate to the discipline(s)
Attends meetings held by AOTA, TOTA, or other entities that will provide valuable information regarding program development
Actively participates in college meetings and/or committees, task forces, and councils
Participates in college-related activities such as registration, community education, recruitment of students, student retention, and faculty selection
Participates in college activities for students/student organizations to aid in retention
Participates in business and community activities that foster goodwill and promote the mission and values of the college
Participates in activities required to maintain program and college accreditation standards
Participates in setting departmental goals, in developing college budgets that support the goals, and in planning for achieving those goals
Promotes and maintains departmental affiliation agreements and other partnerships with other institutions
Responsible for the management and administration of the program, including planning, evaluation, budgeting, selection of faculty and staff, maintenance of accreditation, and commitment to strategies for professional development
Be an effective teacher, maintain current knowledge in their field, and to have pedagogic skills that are appropriate for our students in area of expertise
Performs responsibilities consistent with ACOTE standards and institutional policy
Maintains reports and files according to ACOTE standards and deadlines
Provide appropriate advisement to occupational therapy assistant students throughout the program to ensure student success
Attend and participate in on and off campus events as well as attending meetings provided by ACOTE, AOTA, or TOTA that are beneficial for student and program success
Qualification
Required
Must hold a minimum of a Master's degree by an institution that is accredited by a regional or national accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (USDE). The master's degree is not limited to a master's in occupational therapy. However, the candidate must also have an occupational therapy or occupational therapy assistant degree
Must have a minimum of 5 years documented full-time post-licensure Clinical experience as an occupational therapist or occupational therapy assistant. The experience must include (A.2.1. 2023 ACOTE Standard): 3 years of experience as a faculty member with teaching responsibilities at the postsecondary level
Administrative/ management experience including, but not limited to program planning and implementation, personnel management, evaluation, and budgeting
Understanding of and experience with occupational therapy assistants
Scholarship of application or scholarship of teaching and learning
Clinical experience as an occupational therapist or occupational therapy assistant
Must hold an active, unrestricted Occupational Therapy or Occupational Therapy Assistant license to practice in the state of Texas
Strong organizational and communication skills
