Principal Hardware Project Engineer - A2G (Onsite)

RTX is seeking a Principal Hardware Project Engineer to join their Computing Solutions Department in Cedar Rapids, IA. This role involves leading hardware engineering efforts for a next-generation processing solution, ensuring compliance with certification standards and managing project execution from bidding to sustainment.

Responsibilities

You will serve as the hardware engineering lead, overseeing all aspects of cost, schedule, and technical execution for the A2G program, from pursuit and bidding to planning, execution, and sustainment
You will coordinate with hardware architects, peer engineers, manufacturing, and customers to ensure compliance with certification standards such as DO-254 and AC20-152A
You will apply earned value management (EV) and risk management principles to keep projects on track and aligned with strategic goals
You will lead cross-functional engineering teams of varying experience levels and guide the development of PCB designs, layouts, and processor-based architectures
You will represent the hardware team in customer-facing roles, including bids, proposals, and technical presentations, while maintaining a focus on Design-to-Cost (DTC+) optimization
10% travel as needed

Required

Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience
Current or prior experience leading large, cross-functional hardware teams/engineers
Experience with technical project management, including earned value (EV), risk management, and customer engagement
Experience with relevant certification requirements: TSO, MIL-STD, DO-160, DO-254, AC20-152A, DO-178B/C, DO-297, ARP4754A

Preferred

Experience developing processor-based hardware platforms
Knowledge of Design-to-Cost (DTC+) strategies and transitioning products to manufacturing environments
Strong communicator who collaborates effectively from individual contributors to executive leadership
Demonstrated success balancing performance, cost, and certification in regulated environments
