Chief Financial Officer

Benchmark School is seeking a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to oversee financial policies and manage the school's budget and business operations. The CFO will also administer human resources functions, ensure compliance with legal requirements, and provide financial reports to school leadership.

Responsibilities

Develop and oversee financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to safeguard assets, protect confidential information, and ensure accurate financial reporting
Participate in the development of school strategy, providing recommendations, financial analysis, projections, and other data to inform the process
Administer the annual budget and multi-year forecasting process to align with the school's goals and mission and maintain account records related to the school's budget
Oversee school business and office management functions including: front desk, registrar, tuition billing and collection, accounts payable/receivable, contracting, accounting and reporting, regulatory reporting and compliance, and year-end audit
Serve as the administrative liaison to the Board Finance Committee
Administer human resources functions including payroll, health benefits, retirement, compliance, employee relations, and other employee matters
Ensure that human resources policies and practices are clearly articulated, consistently applied, and conform to legal requirements
Oversee risk management functions including emergency response, compliance, risk exposure areas, and insurance coverage
Serve as liaison between school and outside counsel for legal matters
Manage the facility including maintenance of buildings, grounds, and equipment
Manage rental programs to outside third parties
Oversee all aspects of dining operations
Oversee nursing service department
Provide financial reports to school leadership and the board
Collaborate with and assist the head of school and the board of trustees in meeting fiduciary responsibilities
Understand the culture and climate of the school and the wider educational environment
Manage, mentor, and develop direct reports, providing constructive and timely feedback. Model and foster high ethical standards, integrity, and respect for colleagues, alumni/ae, parents, and students in the conduct of the school's business
Remain current with business management trends and cultivate professional standards and development by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and participating in local, regional, and national professional organizations
Create a warm and supportive environment
Provide clear and timely communication with students, parents, and staff members in a positive, professional manner as appropriate to your role
Demonstrate an openness to learning, growth, and change, in accordance with the educational philosophy of Benchmark School
Actively pursue professional growth and development through professional reading participation in professional development activities at Benchmark and in the area
