Financial Controller
COPAL, Communities Organizing Latine Power and Action, is a member-based organization established in 2018 to improve the quality of life of Latine families. They are seeking a Financial Controller to oversee financial operations, including accounting, budgeting, payroll, and compliance, ensuring strong fiscal health and accurate reporting across multiple entities.

Responsibilities
Maintaining COPAL’s financial accounting system
Preparing all monthly financial statements
Managing accounts receivable and payable to ensure accurate, timely, and efficient collections and payments in compliance with GAAP and organizational policies
Monitoring and managing credit card activity and assisting the Office Manager with coding
Assisting the Office Manager with questions or issues related to accounts payable and other financial areas as needed
Monitoring daily bank activity and ensuring transfers are conducted across all four organizations maintained by COPAL
Maintaining accurate hard copy and digital files for expenditure authorizations, reimbursement and check documentation, and bank deposits
Analyzing operations to identify opportunities to reduce expenses and increase revenue
Assisting development staff with financial information for reports to multiple funders
Creating monthly or quarterly billings for all federal, state, and county contracts
Monitoring and adapting to changes in federal and state laws, contracts, and accounting practices, and implementing updates to ensure compliance with organizational policies
Monitoring expenditures against grant and contract budgets
Auditing contracts as needed
Reporting and responding in accordance with all government deadlines
Collaborating with the outsourced CFO consultant to produce monthly financial statements and support audit preparation
Attending finance-related meetings with agency partners
Generating financial reports required by funders
Managing all aspects of payroll hourly allocations and data entry
Collaborating with the Executive Director and Accounting Associate to manage hourly billing projections
Strategizing with the Executive Director to prepare the annual operating budget for revenue and expenses
Revising the annual operating budget at least mid-year based on year-to-date actuals and projected income and expenses for the remainder of the fiscal year
Reviewing budget planning processes, internal controls, and fiscal management infrastructure and recommending improvements to current practices
Participating in fundraising activities as appropriate to the role, including funder site visits and phone banking to increase membership and donor support
Qualification
Required
You hold a bachelor's degree in accounting
You bring seven or more years of experience in a similar role managing an annual budget of at least $2,000,000
You have previous experience managing federal and state contracts
You understand the social and financial ecosystem and are able to adjust to evolving programmatic opportunities
You demonstrate fluency in the assigned subject matter and can articulate and advocate for it with internal and external stakeholders
You are willing to learn a wide variety of tasks, a strong work ethic, and have a collaborative, team-oriented mindset
You are able to work independently, set priorities, and consistently meet deadlines
You have experience working with diverse communities, including people from lower socioeconomic backgrounds
You demonstrate effective conflict management skills
You are proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Access, Publisher, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint
You bring strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
You are proficient in QuickBooks Online
You are able to travel to sites within a 15-mile radius of the office
You have a valid driver's license, access to reliable transportation, and the ability to meet COPAL's driving record requirements
Preferred
It is preferred if you have prior nonprofit auditing experience
Familiarity with Bill.com considered a plus
