Responsibilities

Evaluation of materials and processes based on conformance to specifications and design and performance requirements
Working closely with design personnel in the selection and approval of materials and finishes in new and updated designs
Supporting product production and supplier support activities
Providing evaluation and resolution to technical, operational, and supplier problems related to materials and processes
Participate in analysis and documentation of technical positions for alternate materials, obsolescence, and failure analysis
Ensure labor costs and estimated completion schedules provided by the Materials and Process Engineering Sections are negotiated, understood, and met product/program commitments

Required

Typically requires a Bachelor of Science degree in Materials Science and Engineering or Metallurgy and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience. In absence of a degree, 12+ years of experience. An advanced degree in a related field may be substituted for additional years of experience
Experience in metal alloy systems (i.e. Aluminum, Carbon Steel, Alloy Steel, Corrosion Resistant Steel, High Temperature Materials, and Specialty Alloys)
Experience in metal design and development
The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required
U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
DoD Clearance: Secret

Preferred

Experience in evaluation of metals for use in products
Experience working on programs, projects, or products associated with the Defense Industry
Experience working with engineering drawings
Experience with metal manufacturing methods including Casting, Forging, Mill Products, Heat Treatment, Furnace Brazing, Additive Manufacturing
Experience working with and evaluation of suppliers performing special manufacturing processes
Experience with common industry standards for metals and metal manufacturing including Aerospace Materials Specifications, American Welding Society, and ASTM International
Experience with corrosion fundamentals and mitigation techniques
Experience with mechanical and/or chemical analysis methods and characterization techniques
Experience related to Material Review Boards, Material and Process Change Boards, Risk Boards, and Engineering Review Boards
Experience with project milestones such as preliminary design reviews and critical design reviews
Earned Valued certification or experience
Ability to write concise technical reports summarizing analyses
Demonstrated ability to lead and complete scientific based projects including failure analysis and obsolescence investigations
Proficient in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Strong communication, interpersonal, planning and time management skills
ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with coworkers from different communities and cultures
Demonstrated ability to work with colleagues who represent a variety of background of work and conflict resolution styles
