Manufacturing Project Engineer - W2
Vass Inc is seeking a Manufacturing Project Engineer to lead the industrialization of new vehicle programs and major component upgrades. This role is responsible for transforming engineering designs into high-volume manufacturing realities and oversees the project lifecycle from facility layout to final assembly line approval.
Responsibilities
Develop and implement manufacturing workflows, station layouts, and assembly sequences using Lean Manufacturing principles
Manage project timelines (using MS Project), budgets, and resource allocation to ensure New Product Introductions (NPI) hit SOP (Start of Production) dates
Specify, source, and validate specialized tooling, robotic cells, and fixtures. Coordinate with vendors for equipment installation and commissioning
Serve as the primary technical link between Product Development (the "designers") and Production (the "builders") to ensure Design for Manufacturability (DFM)
Lead PFMEA (Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) sessions to identify production risks before they happen. Ensure all processes meet FMVSS and ISO standards
Post-launch, analyze production data (downtime, scrap rates) to implement corrective actions and increase throughput
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering
3–5+ years in a high-volume automotive or heavy-truck manufacturing environment
Proficiency in CAD (SolidWorks, CATIA, or AutoCAD) for plant layouts
Strong understanding of APQP and PPAP processes
Experience with integrated powertrains (engines/transmissions) is a major plus
High emotional intelligence for managing relationships between unionized floor staff and corporate executive stakeholders
