HMA Quality Control Intern

CRH is the leading vertically integrated supplier of asphalt, aggregates, cement, ready-mix concrete, and paving and construction services in North America. The hot mix asphalt quality control Intern will work for approximately 10-12 weeks to integrate their education with the company’s objectives, gaining exposure to various departments and work environments.

Responsibilities

Receive detailed understanding of the hot mix asphalt production processes
Collect samples, prep, and test using laboratory apparatus and equipment to determine the sample characteristics
Learn Quality Control methods and reporting procedures
Learn entire paving process and density control
Learn how to conduct and test equipment calibrations
Work to understand aggregate processing and quality conformance
Assist with testing materials in a safe, efficient, and productive manner
Identify and become familiar with various mix specifications requirements
Test materials to determine specific requirements such as weight, gravity, temperature, thickness, and gradation of mix components
Communicate with other technicians regarding mix specifications and test results
Input test result data into computers in laboratories and remote locations
Communicate and assist paving personnel in adjusting processes to conform to specifications
Report and communicate test results ethically, adhering to Pennsy Supply Ethics Policy
Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required
Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and the general public at all times
Perform general cleaning of work area
Regular and timely attendance
Other duties as assigned

Required

Must be enrolled in an accredited college or university and working towards an associate or bachelor's degree in mining engineering, Construction Management, or other industry related degree program
High school Diploma or GED equivalent
Desired 3.0 GPA or better
Knowledge of MSHA, and/or OSHA's General Industry and Construction regulations
Excellent computer skills and proficient in word and excel
Mobility to attend various meetings and events at offsite locations
Must submit to a drug screen and criminal background check
Ability to travel with a current driver's license
