The role involves administering and enhancing legacy Software AG environments, optimizing performance, managing access controls, and contributing to a long-term modernization initiative.

Responsibilities
Manage and maintain Software AG Adabas databases in production, test, and development environments
Monitor nightly jobs and perform routine backups and restores
Refresh lower environments using sanitized production data
Administer and enforce security policies using Natural Security, including role-based access controls
Conduct regular security audits and manage access rights for user onboarding/offboarding
Maintain compliance documentation for regulated environments
Implement and maintain tools like CONNX for efficient Adabas data querying
Develop and maintain user data catalogs
Write user guides and conduct training sessions for analysts and business users
Guide schema changes through dev/test/prod environments using formal SDLC/change control processes
Write scripts and maintain DDMs and Natural utility code for operational support
Maintain a formal data dictionary ensuring consistency and documentation of database objects
Troubleshoot performance issues and tune system parameters for optimal operation
Research and recommend new tools, hardware, or configuration changes to improve resilience and maintainability
Participate in platform upgrades and migrations
Support PEBA's BC/DR initiatives, including planning, testing, and recovery execution
Qualification
Required
8+ years managing Software AG Adabas and Natural in enterprise-level production environments
Expertise in Natural Security, CONNX (or similar Adabas query tools), and DDM management
Strong knowledge of backup and recovery procedures
Strong knowledge of environment refreshes
Strong knowledge of performance tuning and monitoring
Strong knowledge of scripting and automation using Natural utilities
Experience implementing access controls and audit procedures in regulated environments
Familiarity with formal change control and maintaining a data dictionary
Excellent communication skills; ability to create user documentation and deliver training
Preferred
Experience with Software AG tools such as NaturalONE, Predict, EntireX
Exposure to capacity planning, platform modernization, and performance engineering
Experience with state or federal government systems, especially PEBA or similar benefit programs
Participation in business continuity/disaster recovery (BC/DR) planning and testing
