Principal Process Engineer - Shafts Assembly

Boston Scientific is looking for a highly motivated and experienced Principal Process Engineer to join their fast-growing Shafts Assembly team. In this role, you'll use your technical skills and passion for innovation to lead the commercialization of new products and improvements, focusing on developing processes from concept to production.

Responsibilities

Assess process capabilities, prioritize process improvement opportunities, and innovate and implement process improvements on complex projects
Apply technical knowledge to innovate, design, and develop processes, procedures, tooling, and/or automation
Execute the functional deliverables associated with the PDP/TDP, Project Management, and Quality Systems
Serve as a key resource or expert, participating in setting technical direction for the function and/or organization
Own/contribute to technical reports, validations, and qualifications by capturing experimental results
Ensure visibility and closure of process issues (e.g., yields, cost, capability, etc.) per PDP milestones
Evaluate external technologies and strategically identify opportunities to implement them internally
Evaluate emerging technologies and develop strategic roadmaps for internal adoption, including business case development, risk assessment, and implementation planning
Act as the process engineering thought leader, contributing to platform-level architecture decisions and manufacturing technology strategy
Provide ongoing mentoring and technical guidance to managers, other engineers, technicians, and functional groups
Write and review validation protocols and reports applicable to new processes
Serve as a key contributor and participant in technical reviews, preparing and presenting technical data and recommendations at technical and business reviews
Provide Design for Manufacturability (DFM) input to the engineering print package
Partner cross-functionally to develop design specifications, test methods, and material selection
Contribute ideas to or generate Intellectual Property submissions
Train and/or provide work direction to technicians and engineers and may train manufacturing personnel when required as part of prototype line development and validation
Serve as a core team member or technical expert (subject matter expert) on new product development projects
May give direction to technicians and engineers
May serve as a representative or liaison to other Boston Scientific sites or external organizations, boards, or committees

Required

Bachelor's degree in Engineering
Minimum of 7 years of professional engineering experience relevant to this role, or minimum of 6 years of professional engineering experience relevant to this role with an advanced degree
Hands-on mechanical aptitude
Demonstrated engineering fundamentals (LEAN, DFM, etc)
Demonstrated cross functional teamwork in technically demanding environment
Strong conflict resolution and problem-solving skills
Prior experience as a technical lead on team projects
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Prior experience in medical device industry or similar highly-regulated industry
Experience with Process Verification and Validation
Expertise in Operations
Open to travel (domestic or international) up to 15% of time

Preferred

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Biomedical, Chemical, or Electrical Engineering
Advanced degree in Engineering
Ability to influence without authority, including leading teams using a growth mindset
Prior experience as a technical lead and/or core team member, and project management experience
Demonstrated use of Design for Six Sigma tools (Design of Experiments, problem solving)
Highly motivated individual that can independently drive deliverables to completion through collaboration among team members
Demonstrated ability to develop and drive innovative solutions into processes and products
Experience developing and characterizing various types of processes
Demonstrated understanding and usage of statistics to drive improvements; proficiency in Minitab
Demonstrated ability to develop equipment/fixtures/tooling from concept to production
Medical device design experience; new product development
Demonstrated understanding of problem solving and root cause investigations
Troubleshooting in combination with product yield and performance
Experience with mechanical design (CAD/SolidWorks)
Ability to schedule out timelines with specific milestones to achieve and demonstrated success
