Electron Microscopy Trainer and Support Specialist - Nanoscale Characterization Facility - Penn Engineering

Responsibilities
Train users on SEM and TEM systems, including hands-on instruction on various imaging modes and detectors
Provide on-site user support, including troubleshooting and resolving technical issues, during extended hours outside regular business hours
Create, modify, and maintain supporting documentation for training, use, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) of various techniques for the SEMs and TEMs
Collaborate with faculty, technical staff, and users to develop new training materials and techniques
Participate in the maintenance and upkeep of the SEM and TEM systems
Keep abreast of new developments in electron microscopy and related fields by attending conferences and workshops, and making recommendations for upgrades and new equipment, as needed
Qualification
Required
Bachelors degree in materials science, physics, chemistry, engineering, or a related field and one to three years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Strong communication and training skills, with the ability to clearly explain complex concepts to others
Strong organizational and management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and people simultaneously
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues
Preferred
Hands-on experience with SEM and/or TEM imaging and analysis, including knowledge of the various imaging modes and detectors
Hands-on experience with sample preparation techniques, including knowledge of various sample holders and the preparation of samples SEM and/or TEM analysis
Strong knowledge of the principles of electron microscopy, including electron optics and diffraction
Familiarity with relevant software, such as image processing software, and experience with data analysis and interpretation
