Responsibilities

Safeguard the health and safety of students, faculty, staff, and visitors
Support complex and evolving research activity by ensuring life safety systems, laboratory environments, and safety programs align with applicable regulations
Build confidence among internal partners and external agencies through clear standards, sound judgment, and consistent execution
Direct the development, review, and implementation of EH&S strategic plans and initiatives that align with University priorities and long-term growth
Lead audits and inspections across University entities to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, while continuously identifying opportunities to improve quality, service, and outcomes
Serve as the University’s primary liaison with federal, state, and local regulatory authorities related to environmental health and safety matters; collaborate on Building Code and Fire Safety/Systems programs
Review research proposals, laboratory safety systems, and life safety protections to ensure compliance and responsible stewardship of research environments. Provide leadership for University lab safety policies and programs
Contribute to the design and delivery of training programs and presentations that support institutional requirements and promote a culture of safety and accountability across campus

Required

Bachelor's degree in Physical Science, Life Science, Biochemistry, Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, or a closely related field
Six (6) years of relevant professional experience
Valid State of Florida or Georgia driver's license, or the ability to obtain one upon hire

Preferred

Master's degree in a technical or related discipline and four (4) years of experience, or a Bachelor's degree with six (6) years of experience in a related field
Professional certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or comparable credentials
