Sr. Project Engineer - CAPEX
Walker Elliott has partnered with a client to source a Project Engineer providing technical expertise to plant operations and new facility projects. The role focuses on maintaining and improving manufacturing systems through troubleshooting, project execution, and process optimization while supporting all phases of capital projects.
Responsibilities
Troubleshoot and resolve complex electrical and mechanical issues in production lines and equipment, identifying root causes and implementing long-term fixes
Program, modify, and update control systems and PLCs using structured text or graphical programming languages
Support the full lifecycle of capital projects, including design input, equipment selection, vendor coordination, installation oversight, and startup validation
Collaborate daily with plant operations and maintenance teams to ensure smooth equipment installation and system integration
Coordinate with contractors, suppliers, and plant leadership to keep projects on schedule, within scope, and within approved budgets
Lead site-based technical projects focused on improving uptime, reliability, and process efficiency
Oversee procurement and installation of new equipment and ensure compliance with all safety and quality standards
Maintain detailed project documentation, including status updates, timelines, cost tracking, and commissioning results
Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce downtime and enhance overall plant performance
Provide technical training and guidance to plant teams as needed
Perform other duties related to capital project support and system optimization
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Structural, or Industrial Engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical field
3+ years of hands-on engineering experience in a manufacturing, production, or plant operations environment
Strong background in troubleshooting industrial electrical and mechanical systems
Advanced PLC programming and control systems experience required
Proven success managing contractors and equipment installations in an active production setting
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Ability to work independently, prioritize effectively, and make on-the-spot technical decisions in the field
Strong communication and documentation skills for coordinating across technical and operational teams
Physically capable of working in plant or construction environments, including navigating uneven ground or elevated areas
Thorough understanding of manufacturing safety and compliance requirements
