SY 26-27 Learning Support Teacher (Grades PK3-5th)

As a Learning Support Teacher, you will play a vital role in ensuring that children with disabilities and additional learning needs receive the support they deserve, collaborating with general education teachers to create an inclusive learning environment.
Education Management
Responsibilities
Develop, distribute, and maintain IEP snapshots for all students with disabilities
Adhere to Washington Yu Ying’s inclusion model of instruction in the early years
Utilize various co-teaching models of instruction to include lead and support; station, parallel, alternative and team teaching; pull out, resource, etc
Support, implement, and monitor for classroom behavior and academic expectations
Maintain positive communications with parents to partner successfully with the school
Interpret both formal and informal, and classroom based assessment for students in order to make instructional decisions
Collect data on student performance so as to improve student outcomes and direct instruction
Administer and interpret formal assessments as appropriate
Selects and adapts materials to assist students with disabilities to access the general education curriculum, as appropriate
Provide additional instruction and support to students outside of content area to achieve school-wide goals and address student needs
Provide proof of Modified Instruction in the form of accommodation, modifications, or resource room as mandated by the students’ IEPs
Manage and develop student's’ Quarterly IEP progress reports and deliver to student’s parent/guardian’s on the EY caseload
Review evaluation information (Psychological, Clinical , Educational, etc.) prior to MDT meetings
Develop and monitor student goal progress on regular timelines, and completion of student assessments, evaluations, IEPs, 504s and re-evaluations according to federal, state, and district guidelines in powerschool special programs
Plan curriculum and create lesson plans with the needs of all students in mind
Implement grade appropriate IB PYP curriculum (Reading and Writing, Social Studies, Math, and Science)
Plan and deliver transdisciplinary units that integrate skills learning within the IB framework
Ensure a focus on conceptual understanding to support students in developing, extending, and transferring their ideas across contexts
Utilize current IB resources and guidance, and regularly review and refine the implementation of the English programme based on IB expectations
Collaborate with colleagues to design, plan, assess, and moderate learning experiences within the IB programme
Use local and global contexts to establish relevance and authenticity in English learning experiences
Promote effective relationships and purposeful collaboration among teachers to create a positive and dynamic learning community
Maintain active supervision of students at all times, including during instruction, transitions, arrival/dismissal, recess, lunch, and any school-sponsored activities; students must never be left unattended
Ensure student safety by proactively monitoring environments and behaviors, enforcing school safety expectations, and intervening immediately when unsafe conditions or behaviors are observed
Respond promptly to student injuries or medical concerns by following all school protocols, seeking appropriate assistance, and ensuring the student’s immediate well-being
Accurately document and report all injuries and safety incidents in accordance with school procedures and timelines, including notifying designated staff and families as required
Advance the Whole Child Model by participating in and/or leading Care and Boost strategies including, but not limited to, structured recess, restorative in-school suspension, and other student support interventions, while collaborating with staff to promote students’ academic, social-emotional, behavioral, and physical well-being
Support and promote the IB mission and learner profile by modeling IB values, contributing to a positive school culture, and reinforcing internationally minded practices in daily interactions

Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree (required) or higher in Special Education or related field preferred
Fierce commitment to supporting students with special needs
Must be knowledgeable of learning theory, differentiated instruction, developmental reading, child development, applied behavior analysis, and assessment
Solid knowledge of compliance requirements related to Special Education
Preferred
Certification in Special Education preferred
Minimum of 4 years' experience teaching, General Education and/or Special Education preferred
Proficiency in Mandarin language preferred
