Legislative Services Internship (Summer 2026/Academic Year 2026-2027)

State of Nebraska is seeking a Legislative Services Intern for the summer of 2026 and the academic year 2026-2027. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain practical experience in public policy, government operations, and legislative compliance while actively supporting meaningful legislation that impacts Nebraskans.

Government Administration

Responsibilities

Tracking legislation and interim studies throughout the session
Monitoring and attending legislative hearings to observe policymaking in action
Maintaining and updating internal databases used for bill tracking and agency coordination
Conducting research on assigned topics or policy areas
Supporting the team in reviewing and monitoring bill implementation across DHHS
Coordinating follow-up information after hearings, including gathering documentation or assisting with summaries

Required

Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program at an accredited college or university (two-to-four-year institution) OR recently graduated (within one year) from an undergraduate or graduate degree program at an accredited college or university (two-to-four-year institution)
Required a minimum 20 hours during Legislative Session

Preferred

Ability to work on-site in Lincoln, Nebraska
Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn
Professional communication skills and the ability to work with confidential or sensitive information
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with data analysis tools is a plus
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a fast-paced environment
Interest in public policy, political science, government operations, or legislative processes
Adaptability and a desire to learn about various aspects of the state legislative cycle
