Laboratory Technician Senior

The University of Kentucky is dedicated to exploring factors that drive diabetes risk through research in the Barnstable Brown Diabetes Center. The Laboratory Technician Senior will be responsible for conducting various research procedures and coordinating lab tasks, while ensuring the maintenance of supplies and equipment.

Responsibilities

Carrying out research procedures involving mice (genotyping, in vivo assays, colony maintenance)
Cell/tissue culture
Molecular biology assays
Some informatics data analysis
Perform and co-ordinate multiple lab tasks with fellow members on a daily basis
Ensure maintenance of lab supplies, equipment and proper disposal of all materials

Sitting during procedures for long periods of time (benchwork/computer analysis) and repeated manual actions (e.g. pipetting, typing). Moving and lifting object from floor to above shoulders upto 25 pounds. Continuous working with materials requiring personal protective equipment ( EHS policy)
Self-motivation, positive attitude, passion and dedication for science, organizational skills, excellent interpersonal, verbal and written English skills are essential for this position
Mouse handling, pipetting, MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), GraphPad Prism, cell and tissue culture, verbal and written English proficiency, programming (R, Python)

Preferred

Bachelor's degree and about one year relevant experience working in a research laboratory
Prior experience in animal handling, metabolic research, programming, and islet biology are a plus
