Civil/Structural Engineering (Transmission Lines) Intern - Summer 2026

WSP is seeking a Full Time Civil/Structural Engineering (Transmission Lines) Intern for Summer 2026 to work out of their Ann Arbor, MI office. The role involves supporting engineering tasks, learning principles of transmission line engineering, and participating in design aspects for transmission lines.

Responsibilities

Support a variety of engineering tasks with the goal to develop technical, social, and ethical skills
Learn basic principles of Transmission Line Engineering
Participate in all aspects of transmission line design for new installations, relocations, upgrades, and fiber optic enhancements
Use PLS CADD Modeling software and aerial imagery to map and represent transmission line routes
Collaborate directly with utility stakeholders and construction partners
Gain expertise in model design, construction material procurement, and creation of professional drawings for construction purposes
Complete training on assigned tasks
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs

Required

Actively enrolled in an accredited Civil Engineering, or related, Undergraduate program with an anticipated graduation date of August 2026 or later
Must be 18 or older
Demonstrated interest in transmission lines, or related field, and have a strong desire to advance skills related to WSP's work and projects
Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience
Capable of taking direction from leadership, mentors, and managers to executive projects
Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
Authorization to work in the United States at the start of the internship

Preferred

Actively enrolled in an accredited Civil Engineering, or related, Masters or PhD program with an anticipated graduation date of August 2026 or later
Ideal coursework includes structural analysis, concrete design, steel design, soil mechanics, foundation design, and surveying
Previous engineering design or drafting work experience, especially if related to civil and/or structural engineering, is desirable
Prior internship and leadership involvement on campus
