Payroll Specialist
GeoStabilization International® (GSI) develops and installs innovative solutions for geohazards. The Payroll Specialist role focuses on ensuring financial accuracy, regulatory compliance, and employee trust through effective payroll management across multiple states and project types.
Construction
Responsibilities
Execute and audit weekly, multi-state payroll with speed, accuracy, and full compliance
Review employee timecards and manage exceptions, including union and prevailing wage requirements
Produce certified payroll reports for funded projects in partnership with Project Management
Maintain job wage setups and validate against federal, state, county, and local wage determinations
Ensure compliance with wage and hour laws, payroll tax regulations, and reporting requirements
Coordinate benefit deductions (401(k), Roth, garnishments, etc.) with Finance and HR
Support year-end processes including W-2 preparation and distribution across jurisdictions
Maintain clean, auditable records of time, approvals, and wage assignments
Identify and implement improvements in payroll accuracy, automation, and reconciliation
Support system enhancements and integrations, including Viewpoint and acquired entities
Create and maintain SOPs, process documentation, and proactive risk controls
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, HR, or a related discipline
3+ years of hands-on payroll execution experience across multiple states
Strong working knowledge of payroll tax, wage and hour, and labor compliance
Proven ability to research and apply prevailing wage determinations
Advanced Excel proficiency and experience with ERP/payroll systems (Viewpoint a plus)
High attention to detail, deadline discipline, and data integrity
Absolute discretion handling sensitive employee and compensation data
Preferred
Union and certified payroll experience
Construction industry payroll exposure
Payroll certifications (FPC, CPP preferred)
Year-end processing ownership
M&A or system integration experience
