Staff Accountant (Grants)
Soni is seeking a Staff Accountant to ensure the accurate and compliant management of grant funds while supporting their mission. The role involves analyzing complex financial data, maintaining orderly files, and participating in fiscal meetings, along with various responsibilities related to grant management and compliance.

Responsibilities
Develop, implement, and maintain effective financial systems and processes to support grant management and reporting
Ensure accurate and timely processing of all grant-related financial transactions
Monitor grant expenditures to ensure alignment with approved budgets, funding agreements, and regulatory requirements
Prepare and post journal entries; analyze general ledger activity and reconcile balance sheet accounts
Review and approve accounts payable vouchers for assigned grant-funded programs
Collaborate with fiscal and program staff to resolve budgeting, reporting, and compliance issues
Prepare, manage, and revise grant budgets in collaboration with program managers
Generate accurate and timely financial reports for grantors in accordance with funding requirements
Assist in the preparation of periodic financial statements and grant-related financial reports
Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local grant regulations
Prepare for and support internal and external audits, including the provision of documentation, schedules, and explanations
Maintain complete and well-organized records of all grant-related financial activity
Work closely with program managers and internal stakeholders to provide financial insight and support for grant-funded initiatives
Communicate effectively with grantors regarding financial status, reporting requirements, and compliance matters
Train and support staff on grant management policies, procedures, and best practices
Prepare and submit budgets, invoices, schedules, and workpapers in accordance with funder guidelines and deadlines
Analyze grant financial data to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement
Recommend and implement enhancements to financial management and reporting processes
Stay current on grant accounting standards, regulatory updates, and industry best practices
Perform other related duties as assigned to support organizational goals
Qualification
Required
Minimum of three (3) years of accounting experience, with a strong focus on grants management
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
Prior fiscal experience with NYC, NYS, federal, and private grants and contracts
Thorough knowledge of GAAP and grant accounting principles
Experience preparing NYS SSOP, NYS CFR, and Uniform Guidance (formerly A-133) reports
Prior experience supporting funder and agency audits
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word, accounting systems, and standard workplace software
Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess complex fiscal scenarios and deliver timely insights
Detail-oriented with excellent written and verbal communication skills
Preferred
NetSuite experience highly desirable
