CHILD DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM TECHNICIAN - DIRECT HIRE AUTHORITY

USAJOBS is seeking a Child Development Program Technician who will provide specialized developmental care and instruction for children in the Child Development Center. The role includes designing activity plans, observing child development, and providing oversight in a classroom setting for children ages 6 months to 5 years.

Responsibilities

Designs, implements, and reviews activity plans. The incumbent uses own initiative to design and implement a variety of activity plans to stimulate and sustain the interest of children and to contribute to their social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development
Observes and evaluates each child's health and development and reports on and maintains records of observations. Participates in conferences with parents and program assistants. Prepares and submits accurate and timely reports as required
Prepares and implements specialized programs for children with special needs, i.e., children with disciplinary problems, learning disabilities, or gifted children. Develops plans to deal with unusual or difficult problems/situations as associated with the needs of individual children
Provides technical guidance and leadership to junior employees assigned to assist with program activities and participates in special projects. Provides on-the-job training and instruction on work methods and techniques concerning such matters as programmed activities, food handling, health, safety, and behavior management

Required

U.S. Citizenship is required
Males must be registered for Selective Service
Must complete additional training requirements to include Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, First Aid, rescue breathing, and food handlers
Must satisfactorily complete a physical and keep current on all immunizations
Must be at least 18 years of age
Must possess a high school diploma
Applicants must have at least 1 year (52 weeks) of specialized experience at the next lower broadband NJ-01, equivalent to the next lower grade GS-04 or equivalent in other pay systems
Have successfully completed four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university
Combination of education and experience as described in the job opportunity announcement and education
Knowledge of Child Development regulations, procedures, and processes
Knowledge of early child development theory, methodology, and practices relating to physical, cognitive, social, and emotional development
Knowledge of Child Development Center regulations, programs, and operations
Ability to develop creative and innovative activity and special program plans
Ability to promote and foster effective working relationships with others and to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
Ability to ensure the safety and hygiene of children through constant supervision, effective arrangement of space, and proper management of equipment
