Responsibilities
Design, implement, and maintain scalable ETL/ELT pipelines to ingest and transform complex scientific datasets (e.g., genomics, proteomics, imaging, lab, and clinical biomarker data)
Architect and optimize cloud-based data lake / lakehouse solutions to support translational research use cases
Normalize and integrate external vendor and CRO data into structured, reusable data models
Partner with IT and research stakeholders to align data architecture, governance, and security standards
Develop and support interactive analytical applications and dashboards (e.g., R Shiny–based tools, framework-driven apps, or enterprise visualization platforms) that allow scientists to explore and interpret data efficiently
Translate abstract scientific questions into performant analytical views and visual workflows
Ensure analytical tools are integrated into automated, live data pipelines rather than static reporting solutions
Optimize performance and usability when working with large, multi-omics datasets
Champion FAIR data principles, metadata standards, and documentation across translational and clinical data assets
Support data lifecycle management, quality controls, and reproducibility
Contribute to governance processes that enable data reuse across programs and studies
Act as a senior technical contributor and thought partner across Research, Translational Sciences, and IT
Lead or contribute to cross-functional initiatives spanning data ingestion, integration, analytics, and access
Engage stakeholders to gather requirements, incorporate feedback, and ensure high-quality delivery
Support user acceptance testing (UAT) and continuous improvement of data products
Qualification
Required
Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Data Engineering, Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Data Science, or a related field
Experience: 5–10+ years of experience across data engineering, analytics engineering, software development, or computational biology
Proven experience delivering production-grade data pipelines and analytical solutions
Strong proficiency in Python and SQL for data engineering and automation
Experience with R for analytics, visualization, or interoperability with scientific teams
Hands-on experience with modern cloud data platforms (e.g., Azure Fabric, Databricks, Snowflake, or similar)
Solid understanding of ETL processes, data modeling, and schema design for complex datasets
Ability to work directly with scientific stakeholders and translate research needs into technical solutions
Comfortable operating as a bridge between research, engineering, and IT teams
Preferred
Experience with scientific or clinical data standards (e.g., SDTM, ADaM, CDISC) and biomarker data types (NGS, flow cytometry, proteomics, gene expression)
Familiarity with workflow orchestration tools (e.g., Airflow, Dagster, Prefect) and containerization (Docker/Kubernetes)
Experience developing or supporting interactive analytics tools (e.g., R Shiny frameworks, Spotfire, or similar platforms)
Knowledge of metadata management, APIs, and query optimization
Prior work in translational research, life sciences, or biopharmaceutical environments
