Senior Mechanical Design Engineer
Wabtec Corporation is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to support research and development projects within their Advanced Technology team. The role involves working with cross-functional teams to demonstrate future technologies and overseeing the design, manufacturing, and testing of R&D projects.

Responsibilities
Developing the designs, plans and processes for building demonstration prototypes
Estimating production times, staffing requirements, and related costs to provide information for management decisions
Provides input for selecting the best methods, tooling, and equipment based on the project design requirements and cost targets
Ensures manufacturability of all prototype components and sub-assemblies
Identifying and mitigating design and manufacturing risks
Providing insight and technical guidance to the team during the build and test phases
Ensuring compliance with all relevant safety and regulatory standards
Managing the budget for all R&D activities
Tracking progress and reporting project status
Identify opportunities for process improvement and innovation within project framework
Be able to communicate with key customers and discuss areas they could use to improve their performance and relate that to solutions within the Advanced Tech group
Solving unique and complex mechanical and manufacturing related problems
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Manufacturing Engineering or a related field from an accredited University or College
10+ years of experience in engineering
Heavy Machinery/Industrial Experience
Depth of knowledge in machining, welding, and assembly processes for large assemblies
Experience leading engineering projects from design through build and testing
Strong technical communication, problem-solving, and project management skills
Ability to work well independently and as part of a cross-functional team
Comprehensive knowledge of manufacturing techniques and processes
Experience working with various suppliers from first contact, through onboarding, and ultimately delivery
Willingness to travel to customers along with manufacturing and testing locations as required, up to 25% of the time
Preferred
Railcar, Locomotive or MOW knowledge a plus
Field experience a plus
Familiarity with locomotive or rail vehicle manufacturing a plus
Understanding of FRA/AAR rules a plus
3D CAD experience a plus
Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to influence, motive, coach, and drive accountability
