Responsibilities

Functions as an Electronics Industrial Specialist for Federal Prison Industries (UNICOR) at a Bureau of Prisons’ (BOP) federal correctional facility
Supervises and arranges work assignments for inmates in the design and production of a wide range of UNICOR products
Performs research, evaluation, and development of pricing of circuit card and cable assemblies
Determines whether a product is suitable for possible manufacturing by UNICOR based on capabilities of the inmate work force, quantity of the product, and whether the item meets the criteria of profitable product for the corporation
Performs reengineering and design changes on existing test devices and other electronic apparatus
Reviews all solicitations ensuring that UNICOR can manufacture or assemble requested items
Involved in the marketing of products that are manufactured or assembled by UNICOR Electronics Business Group
Along with all other correctional institution employees, incumbent is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution. The staff correctional responsibilities precede all others required by this position and are performed on a regular and recurring basis

Required

U.S. Citizenship is Required
Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study -- business administration, industrial management, engineering, applied sciences, or other fields related to the position
Specialized Experience (for positions above GS-5): Experience that demonstrated a practical knowledge of the methods, materials, machinery, and facilities used in industrial production operations
In addition to meeting the Basic Requirements above, applicants must have: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related
You must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade level
Experience in a trade or craft that required intensive knowledge of electronics principles, techniques, methods and precedents
Experience as a planner and estimator in analyzing designs for production purposes
Experience in Military Electronics, Aviation Electronics or Nuclear propulsion
You may have a combination of successfully completed higher education and experience
Education must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education
Your eligibility for consideration will be based on your responses to the questions in the application
Appointment is subject to satisfactory completion of a urinalysis, physical, and background investigation
All applicants are subject to National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and credit checks
Successful completion of the 'Introduction to Correctional Techniques,' three-week training course at Glynco, Georgia is required
