2026 Summer Intern - Hoogenraad Lab, Neuroscience

Responsibilities

Design and conduct cell culture experiments to validate potential therapeutic hypotheses using molecular and cell biology approaches
Analyze and interpret experimental data to delineate the mechanisms underlying Parkinson’s Disease biology
Present findings at group meetings and contribute to scientific publications and discussions
Participate in the Genentech Internship Program, which provides an exceptional environment for pursuing fundamental scientific questions and sharing your science with a diverse community

Required

Must be pursuing a PhD (enrolled student)
Cell Biology, Neuroscience, Pathobiology, Pharmacology, or a related field
Experience in molecular and cellular biology, in particular Western blotting, qPCR, immunocytochemistry, fluorescent imaging and viability assays with hands-on expertise of sterile technique and cell culturing
Deep passion for understanding the molecular mechanisms relevant to neurodegeneration, particularly mitochondrial pathways
Ability to work independently, troubleshoot and design experiments to address key project questions
Detail-oriented, diligent notebook maintenance and passion for high-quality, translational science

Preferred

Proven track record of success in wet-laboratory experimentation
Proficient in biochemistry or omics technologies
Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills, with a proactive attitude
