The New York State Department of State is seeking a Senior Accountant for the Bureau of Fiscal Management. The role involves performing reconciliations and audits, maintaining financial records, processing transactions, and providing guidance and training to subordinates.

Government Administration

Responsibilities

Perform regularly scheduled reconciliations and audits of all the Department of State's revenue generating units
Maintain financial record-keeping, in accordance with New York State (NYS) guidelines and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
Process inter-departmental returns, refunds and payments to vendors
Analyze review and approve revenue and payment transactions
Prepare written and tabular reports upon request and assist with the development of intra agency reports
Process daily cash and check deposits and assist with petty cash disbursements
Perform various budget journal and revenue transfers within the Statewide Financial System (SFS)
Administer guidance, training and support to the Office Assistant 2 (OA2)
Ensure subordinates complete all mandatory trainings, and timely record leave/accruals in the Leave and Accrual Tracking System (LATS) and Time Distribution System (TDS)

Required

A bachelor's degree in accounting, auditing, or taxation or a bachelor's degree with 24 semester credit hours in accounting, auditing, or taxation courses
One year of professional experience in accounting/auditing or financial internal or field auditing, where you were responsible for the full range of activities in the design and/or review, analysis and management of accounting systems, resulting in the preparation of, or recommendations on, financial statements in accord with generally accepted accounting principles
A master's or higher degree in accounting, auditing, or taxation may substitute for one year of experience
Two years of professional experience in accounting/auditing or financial internal or field auditing, where you were responsible for the full range of activities in the design and/or review, analysis and management of accounting systems, resulting in the preparation of, or recommendations on, financial statements in accord with generally accepted accounting principles
A master's degree in accounting, auditing, or taxation and one year of professional experience in accounting/auditing or financial internal or field auditing, where you were responsible for the full range of activities in the design and/or review, analysis and management of accounting systems, resulting in the preparation of, or recommendations on, financial statements in accord with generally accepted accounting principles or a currently valid Certified Public Accountant license and registration issued by New York State

Preferred

Background in accounting or bookkeeping with strong organizational skills combined with SFS experience specifically in the areas of vouchers, accounts receivables and accounts payable and Microsoft Office
