Lexington Health is a comprehensive network of care that includes various medical facilities and services. The Paralegal provides professional legal support services, conducting legal research, drafting documents, and managing schedules and communications as directed by the SVP General Counsel.

Responsibilities
Organize documents and coordinate document productions. Conduct the date-stamping, redaction, duplication and indexing of documents. Set up and maintain files which are organized chronologically, numerically and/or by subject matter. Work with SVP General Counsel and/or his/her designee on electronic productions. Under the guidance of a SVP General Counsel and/or his/her designee, categorize documents by subject matter, prepare a chronology of facts and create production charts
Conduct various document searches and factual research. Create and maintain internal databases, run searches on internal and external document databases and systems, cull relevant information from a variety of resources such as newspapers, magazines, libraries, case documents and trade associations. Gather and analyze research data, such as statutes, decisions, legal articles, codes, and documents
Investigate facts and law of cases to determine causes of action and to prepare cases
Prepare witness and matter materials for case preparation. Organize interview memos, digests and other relevant documents for legal counsel review and case preparation
Prepare for and attend depositions. Under SVP General Counsel and/or his/her designee supervision, gather and prepare documents relevant to the deponent, organize exhibits, take notes and handle exhibits during the deposition, and digest transcripts to summarize highlights of a proceeding
Motion practice. Pull relevant documents, proofread papers, organize exhibits and create document indices in the preparation of motion filing
Court filings. Work with legal counsel in the preparation and filing of all court documents. Create, bind and distribute both file and courtesy copies. Organize the briefs, exhibits and appendices
Act as liaison among various internal departments as well as with outside agencies. Oversee the progress of documents through litigation support departments, order transcripts from reporting services, and fulfill requests from outside counsel and others
Prepare for and attend trials. Organize exhibits, files and all other supporting documents, coordinate trial set-up and logistics, assist attorneys in the courtroom by taking notes, handling exhibits, and marking documents referred to by legal counsel, assist in the preparation of witness testimony and serve as liaison between trial attorneys and in-house staff
Keep and monitor legal volumes to ensure that law library is up-to-date
Effectively prioritize tasks of greatest significance to the organization and work issues to closure
Review, analyze and redline agreements and other documents in preparation for attorney review
Manage Contract flow from the legal department perspective as directed by SVP General Counsel and/or his/her designee
Listen attentively and build consensus in group settings
Record sensitive information in an appropriate manner and indicate that certain information is attorney-client privileged as appropriate
Maintain confidentiality of matters
Maintain professional relationships
Initiate communication with supervisors and peers as needed
Transmit information appropriately over telephone, pagers, and other communication devices
Accept assignments based on volume, acuity, needs, and the qualifications and competencies of self and of other staff members
Collaborate with other members of the Legal Department and coordinate activities across the system
Work with others as needed to timely complete work
Seek advice and involvement from assigned attorney(s) and the Legal Department as needed
Report to work on time and as scheduled
Work after hours as needed to complete special projects
Performs all other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Minimum Education: High School Diploma or GED
Some post-high school education, such as courses in business practices and typing
Minimum Years of Experience: 5 Years of experience in a law firm, in-house legal department, or other office environment where the majority of the work was legal in focus

Required Certifications/Licensure: None
Required Training: Skills in computer applications and ability to operate legal data base management programs
Familiarity with Microsoft Office
Thorough knowledge of English grammar and spelling
Knowledge of standard office practices and equipment
Ability to type 70 words per minute
Familiarity with civil rules of procedure and court scheduling practices
Ability to answer phones, schedule appointments and manage customer requests
Ability to take written minutes of meetings and prepare written summaries of events
Ability to self-regulate, learn from prior experiences and anticipate the needs of the assigned attorney(s)
